Can our youth rise to the occasion?

“I want to change my nationality” said a Pakistani without any shred of shame. And when asked why, she answered, “That's because I'm fed up. I know it wouldn't change things but it would make me feel less bad about what's happening right now. The fact that I belong here and I can't do anything big for my fellow countrymen has really started to annoy me. I'm not turning my back on this country but all I'm saying is that I wish I had never belonged here; never been a Pakistani.”
To my surprise, many people who heard this said that they disliked it. And why was that? That is because despite all the frustrating conditions, the majority of Pakistani youth believe Pakistan is the best country in the world to live in.
The motives and participation of our youth has been questioned time and time again. But today’s youth proved all those judgments wrong. The relief activities for the flood victims organized by the teenagers and university students are remarkable. NGOs like “Multi-Shine Advertisements and Solutions ” and “Checkmate Solutions” got a lot of volunteers who helped them pack and organize boxes containing basic food items such as rice, flour, sugar, salt etc. Many students also participated in the march, while fasting in the blistering heat, and collected donations. A few of them also went to the affected areas themselves to distribute the donations and help the people.
There was also a peaceful demonstration organized by the youth to protest against the injustice that happened in Sialkot. Young Pakistanis also believe that education can bring prosperity to the country. And thus many students have engaged themselves in after-school social service. They teach at schools located in not very well off areas.
The Youth of Pakistan has the potential to bring about a revolution in Pakistan. They have the ability to change the fate of this country. Whether they live up to their potential or not only time can tell.
