I went to sukker last weekend to observe what media has been portraying for the last four weeks. I was dumbfounded to see that Sindh is not part of Pakistan. There was no abetting neither the government intervention there has taken place yet. People die from undernourishment and water borne diseases. Interior Sindh, a place where tribal lords fight for land, I was stuck between two tribes and conveying aid was so not possible. Jatoi and Mehr, two sindhi tribes have spars amongst themselves and Pakistan drowns as feudal lords continue fighting. Arms and ammunition there is more than what Pakistan army possesses. In Shikarpur we were told that Punjab affected area’s have excess aid, maybe because the dominant party there takes responsibility and Sindh whose chief minister, an eighty-two year old guy is more engrossed in party affairs than taking responsibility to help his own people belonging to his own Sindhi community. It’s time we should not rely on a selfish government and bring-in aid from our own lavish lives. Private organizations are trying their level best to help the victims but operating in Interior Sindh without police assistance is risky and highly dangerous. Though 29% of Pakistani agriculture depends on interior Sindh but still we fail to assist our brothers who have catered us for 63 years. Crops droop with floods and their owners run for lives. Children roam around naked in the heat of 53 degrees centigrade. People from considerable rich families fear to walk on the roads as victims plunder passerbies. it’s time we stand out and do something. We need to bring-in courage we had in 2005, with that valor we don’t need government assistance then.
